About

ABOUT ME…
Hi, I’m Jay Jay - I’m 24, I am originally from Ayr, Scotland - and I’m currently living in Leicester.
I’m working on:
I’ve just completed a MA in New Media and Society at the University of Leicester - I will be graduating with Distinction in January 2009. I am about to begin a Ph.D. (January 2009) with the Media and Communications Dept. - think social networking, identity and the relationship between online and offline connections. I’m working on a project with the University of Leicester called small worlds as a student mentor.
I am also a Teaching Assistant. I have recently began tutoring on the 2nd year core module, “New Media and the Wired World” - I will be tutoring Communication Processes next year.
What else you should know about me:
My first degree was in Media Theory and Production - I graduated with a 2:1 from the University of Paisley in 2007. I moved to Leicester last year to continue my studies. I got the chance to write my undergraduate dissertation on the topic of web 2.0 and the perceived benefits of social networking platforms for graduating students and from that, I decided that I wished to focus more on new media as a subject area. Having a mum who was a system analyst and a dad who was a communications manager during the dot com bubble, I had access to and was allowed to experiment with the Internet at a young age - eventually developing my own awareness of online communities. I’ve been blogging since around 2000 and more recently have been heavily involved in social networking platforms and microblogging networks such as twitter and seesmic.
As much as I love learning and researching about online identities, I hate writing about myself - so I’ll leave it at that!
