University of Leicester and DeMontfort University Social Media Proposal.

Why write when I’ve already proposed it on Seesmic?

I’m looking to hear from anybody who lives in Leicester (or the surrounding area) about this. The abundance of us who are coming out of the woodwork and grouping around these new, exciting social media applications shows how we can actually make Leicester a place that is known for its ability to embrace New Media. I mean, I turned down Leeds - the University which apparently going to come top in the RAE this year for its new media research - for my Ph.D. probably because Leicester will be able to offer me a greater opportunity to stick at my own belief system and not attempt to apply policy to something that I believe, and I know a lot of people at these two Leicester Universities believe, should not be seen as just another subsection of the media/communications/cultural studies route.

I want to take it outside of that and I want to show the University of Leicester that “New Media” is something they should be SERIOUSLY looking at funding- and shouldn’t be locked up as another subsection of the Media department. It’s all about cross-departments and cross-universities. People should be talking about Leicester a prolific player in this social media game.

I’ve added the Seesmic comment plugin to my blog now - so please feel free to get on the webcam and tell me what you think.
